Sometime last May (or thereabouts), I stumbled upon a palette that absolutely stole my heart—lush purples, radiant pinks, warm Tuscan reds, and deep olive and piney greens. All of it set against a dreamy backdrop of aqua and Naples yellow. It was stunning. And the brushwork? Intuitive, emotive, bursting with energy. I loved every bit of it.
Naturally, I wanted to capture that same magic again. So, I tried to recreate it. And—well—that turned into an entirely different adventure. Instead of letting myself flow into the new piece, I found myself chasing the thrill of the original. I was stuck looking back instead of fully immersing myself in the moment. I had to step away from that first painting, quiet the comparison, and truly let myself dive into creating something fresh.
One thing that helped? Bringing an easel into my studio. I usually paint on canvases pinned to the wall, but switching things up—working on both the easel and the wall—opened up a new kind of freedom. It loosened me up, encouraged bolder marks, and helped me tap into a more instinctive way of working.
These new pieces? They’re full of movement, floral energy, and a spiritual quality that feels just right. I love where this journey is taking me, and I hope the magic keeps flowing!
